What is Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (MLD) is a light, skin-stretching massage that encourages the movement of lymphatic fluid throughout the body.

Unlike traditional massage, MLD uses delicate, rhythmic strokes, using light touch without emollient to stimulate the lymphatic system, supporting lymphatic circulation and fluid movement.

At Elysian Rose Aesthetics & Wellness, we practice the Vodder Method, the most well-known and medically supported manual technique developed by Dr. Emil Vodder in France in the 1930s. The Vodder Method is used to assist lymph flow and aid in drainage of tissues.

This specialized approach is widely used in clinical and therapeutic settings to support lymphatic function and manage fluid-related conditions.

Because the lymphatic system plays a critical role in detoxification and immunity, over time it can become sluggish due to stress, illness, surgery, accumulation of toxins and fluid build up.

This can lead to bloating, inflammation, and fatigue. MLD helps reset and reawaken your body’s natural healing abilities and offers relief throughout your body.

Lymphatic Drainage Can Help With:

Migraines and Headaches

By reducing fluid retention and improving circulation, MLD can alleviate pressure that contributes to headaches.

Chronic Fatigue

By supporting lymphatic circulation, MLD may help reduce sensations of heaviness and fatigue.

Edema (Swelling)

No matter if it’s due to surgery, injury, poor circulation, or pregnancy, MLD helps move excess fluid and reduce swelling.

Cellulite and Inflammation

By improving lymph flow, MLD promotes smoother, healthier skin and reduces puffiness.

Post-Injury and Post-Surgery Recovery

Sprains, whiplash, hematomas, and post-op swelling can all benefit from movement of lymphatic fluid, including post-surgical and plastic surgery recovery when appropriate.

Oncology and Autoimmune Care

For those undergoing treatment or dealing with autoimmune disorders, MLD is commonly used by trained therapists to support lymphatic function and manage swelling with additional clinical consideration.

Tinnitus (Ringing in the Ears)

Lymphatic drainage may help relieve pressure in the head and ears, offering relief from persistent ringing. Great if you experience frequent ear infections.

Destiny has a magic touch! I have had many types of bodywork with tons of therapists and I think Destiny is extra special. Try the MLD, you will not regret it! Also very professional.

From the moment you step into our studio, you will be welcomed into a space of focused, individualized attention.

Your session will begin with a consultation to understand your needs and concerns. As you settle onto the treatment table, rhythmic movements help your body to stimulate lymphatic flow.

Unlike traditional massages, MLD employs light touch and is deeply relaxing. Many of our clients have drifted into a deeply relaxed state during their session.

Following this session, you’ll feel lighter, less congested, and more at ease.

For best results, we recommend a series of sessions, especially if you are addressing chronic conditions.

As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT), our owner applies advanced clinical training to deliver manual lymphatic drainage as part of a broader, evidence-based approach known as Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) when appropriate.

CDT includes compression therapy, therapeutic exercise, and skin care to support individuals managing primary and secondary lymphedema.

Our Vodder Method Lymphatic Drainage Therapy sessions are here to help you feel your best. Contact us to book manual lymphatic drainage therapy in Encinitas and North County, San Diego.
